Each January and February the Spread the Love campaign encourages the donation of peanut butter and jelly jars that are then distributed to local food banks. Last year, 1,483 jars were collected during the campaign. According to Hunger Free Colorado, a resource connecting families and individuals to food and nutrition resources, nearly 1 in 6 Colorado households with children report an inability to afford adequate food. Each year there is a need for nonperishable food items at food banks following the holiday season when donations are at the lowest and in the highest demand.

The public is invited to help cram the police cruiser with donations of peanut butter and jelly jars at both King Soopers’ locations in Commerce City.
