If you've been sexually assaulted and live in the City of Brighton, Commerce City, Fort Lupton or Lochbuie, or the assault took place in any of these jurisdictions, there is now a new pathway to justice.

SEEK THEN SPEAK is a tool to support survivors of sexual assault to explore their options, connect with local resources and begin the process of reporting their sexual assault.

Sexual Assault Taskforce

SATF_Logo_Vector_ColorIn 2018, Commerce City and Brighton worked together to create an innovative, victim-centered way to handle sex crimes and centralize sexual assault investigations between the two jurisdictions. The Commerce City-Brighton Sexual Assault Taskforce (SATF), the first initiative of its kind in Colorado, provides an integrated approach to the response and investigation of sex crimes. All sex investigations and sex offender management are handled by a dedicated and specially-trained team of individuals who serve victims from the initial incident all the way through the courtroom.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month

SAAM raises public awareness about sexual violence and educates communities on how to prevent it. The theme of Sexual Assault Awareness Month 2023 is “Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.” This April's campaign calls on all individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions to change ourselves and the systems surrounding us to build racial equity and respect.

National Crime Victims Rights' Week is April 23-29

National Crime Victims Week Banner English

The annual observance of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week reminds us of the importance of giving victims a compassionate voice, helping them cope, and educating them about their rights. This year’s NCVRW theme: "Survivor Voices: Elevate. Engage. Effect Change" calls upon communities to amplify the voices of survivors and create environments where survivors have the confidence that they will be heard, believed, and supported.

Mobile Phone Drive for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October

pic_cell_phone_donation_barrelThe Commerce City-Brighton Victim Services Unit (VSU) wants to put your used cell phone into the hands of someone who may need it in an emergency. Throughout Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the VSU is encouraging donations of used mobile phones and chargers in designated drop off locations in the city.

All mobile phones sold in the United States are able to call 911 in an emergency, even without service from a carrier. Secure the Call, a nonprofit partner organization, wipes the donated phones of all personal information, returns them to factory settings and distributes them to victims of domestic violence, seniors and other at-risk individuals for use in emergencies.

Donation barrels are available throughout October at the following locations:
Commerce City Civic Center, 7887 E. 60th Ave.
Eagle Pointe Recreation Center, 6060 Parkway Dr.
Bison Ridge Recreation Center, 13905 E. 112th Ave.
