Throughout 2022 and 2023, the City will be conducting two projects related to the City Council. The first is a community survey on the City Council composition. Residents will be asked to select their preference on a potential change to the Council composition and the role of the Mayor. The results of the survey will be presented to Council in mid-2022 and then Council will decide which Council composition change as a Charter amendment to put before voters at a special election in November 2022. If the measure passes, the Council composition will take effect for the 2023 regular municipal election.

The second opportunity for public input will be the redistricting of the City’s wards. Residents will be able to draw their Communities of Interest (geographic areas with common interests) which will be used as a consideration to redraw the Ward boundaries in 2023.

City staff will be hosting information sessions throughout 2022 on these two projects. Interested residents are encouraged to attend the information sessions and the dates, times and locations can be found on the City’s website, social media pages, and in the Upcoming Events section of the Connected Newsletter.
